This project which begun running in August 1999 has three different
components:
CRISIS
CENTRE -
Responding primarily to intra-family and gender-based violence against
women and children through the provision of integrated services support
to survivors of such violence. These services include:
- Counseling (using the empowerment approach),
- Legal aid counseling,
- Temporary shelter,
- Rehabilitation and
- Providing assistance funds for subsistence and
practical needs of survivors.

This is based in the Eastern Region of Ghana and its exact location
is kept confidential for the sake of security of clients. The Shelter
is the first of its kind in Ghana. The Shelter Services include:
- Temporary lodging,
- Counseling,
- Case Management support,
- Advocacy and follow-up,
- Care for pregnant survivors.
The Shelter also makes appropriate linking up with other services, such
as medical, psychotherapy, legal/social/pastoral counseling and, skills
training for clients, and gives educational support/tutoring for children
of school going age.
– the police, social welfare,
legal practitioners, medical institutions etc., for effective co-ordination
and monitoring of clients progress.
